How the Grinch Rescheduled Christmas

A Tale of Two Tall Trees from Wisconsin

One tall balsam fir (pictured left at top) went from Neenah, Wisconsin all the way to Washington D.C. to be presented to Michelle Obama and her daughters Malia and Sasha, and of course Bo, the family dog. The 18 foot tree was selected to be the official White House Blue Room Christmas tree.

Yet, another freshly cut balsam fir (pictured left at bottom) reaching 36 feet tall, went from the Brule River State Forest, near Hayward, to the Capital Rotunda. According to a long established tradition, this second tree was to be lit by the governor in a traditional noon ceremony last Friday.

Now, the first tree, which took some 20 years to grow, was accompanied all the way to D.C.by Tom and Sue Schroeder who live near Neshkoro. The tree was received according to traditional schedule in front of the White House. “It’s just very thrilling,” Sue Schroeder said after leaving the tree behind in Washington, D.C.. Merry Christmas!

The the second tree; the Capitol tree did not fair as well. You know the expression “He could mess up a one car funeral”? Well, Scott Walker did. The lighting ceremony and celebration did not follow the traditional flow. At the last minute the schedule of the ceremony was abruptly changed from noon. It was rescheduled for a much earlier hour – 8:15 a.m..

Confusion and Chaos Abound in the World of Walker

This confusion and bad timing is nothing new in the Walker/GOP run Capital. Another piece of bad timing regarding scheduling an “open meeting”, to discuss collective bargaining legislation, went all the way to the State Supreme Court and is still the subject of litigation and controversy. It is standard procedure for the Walker administration to give the shortest of legal notice of legislative hearings. Nothing new. The reason for this short notice is to confuse the Democrats in opposition and leave them in the dark as to what and when legislation is to be debated and voted upon. This intentional manipulation of schedule is just one more reason why thousands of Wisconsinites have already signed recall petitions across State.

The Christmas Tree Ceremony Reschedule

So why was the tree lighting ceremony changed at the last minute? Most will say the abrupt change in timing came because Walker was leery of protesters. So, he thought he would trick them by shifting the time. His press secretary, Cullen Werwie, said the governor had previous engagements in Milwaukee. Before you make a decision on who to believe, you might note that Weirie has already been granted immunity from prosecution in the John Doe investigation.

Just Poor Leadership

Regardless of the reason given for the reschedule, it points to poor leadership that has been typical of Walker. His self interest, once again, trumps any and all inconvenience his change of schedule might reap on others, in this case a bus load of school children.

Account of Sharon Davis – Anita Treakle

“Today in Madison Wisconsin Scott Walker AGAIN showed his true colors – At 4AM a bus load of Northwestern school children boarded a bus to drive HOURS down to Madison to sing at the tree lighting ceremony (The tree came from their area forest) 3/4ths of the way down they found out the tree had already been lit without them! Thank God for the goodness of Senator Bob Jauch – He actually unplugged the tree – asked the people protesting to stay and THEY gladly did so and enjoyed the children singing!! Bob then relit the tree! Scott Walker you are a classless jerk and a disgrace to this state!! What you did to those children was just WRONG. It’s no wonder they are recalling you – we’ll just add this to the list of reasons…”

In the end, the day was salvaged by a right jolly elf from way up north in Poplar, Senator Bob Jauch. (pictured as elf above) A man from Poplar knows from trees. He simply unplugged the tree after the early lighting and asked everyone to stay for a second lighting at the traditional time.

Scott Walker Called On Santa’s Carpet

When Santa heard of the disappointment of the singing students, he called Scott Walker to the carpet. Here is a short excerpt of that interview.

Scott Walker is a poor example of what constitutes a Governor. I have not referred to him as Gov. of Wisconsin as this would infer respect…..I have no respect for this corporate whiner, Koch funded ass kisser. He is a sorry excuse for a human let alone as someone representating my state. Bob Jauch’s actions speak louder than words…This is my State and Walker will not disrespect the people from my State or their children, I will unplug the tree and have a do over with the Wisconsin public and school children in attendance to celebrate Wisconsin! HEY WALKER get a clue this is what Democracy looks like and you are not in the picture. You may not remember me but so far over 300 thousand can RECALL you in only 12 days of effort. You are a coward, you can run, you can hide, you can claim schedule conflicts but you cannot claim to be what Wisconsin looks like. Because Wisconsin does not look like a $3.00 KOCH whore.
